Liz Janangelo Earns 2008 LPGA Tour Card

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. ? Former 2006 Duke University graduate Liz Janangelo was one of 17 golfers to earn a 2008 Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tour card on Sunday at the 2007 Final Qualifying Tournament at the Legends and Champions Courses at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Janangelo turned in rounds of 70, 71, 70, 73 and 72 to finish with a four-under-par, 356, as she tied for 14th in the qualifying.
Earning medalist honors was Jane Park with a 17-under-par, 343, over the five days of play. Other earning exempt tour cards were Su A Kim, Hee Young Park, Kelli Kuehne, Carolina Llano, Yani Tseng, Russy Gulyanamitta, Jacqueline Yang, Louise Friberg, Meredith Duncan, Shanshan Feng, Sara Kemp, Becky Lucidi, Sophie Giquel, Sandra Gal and Danielle Downey.
Other Blue Devils in the final qualifying were Anna Grzebien, who finished tied for 25th with rounds of 70-72-70-75-73=360, Virada Nirapathpongporn also tied for 25th with rounds of 71-72-72-74-71=360 and Kristina Tucker tied for 61st with scores of 70-76-70-77-73=366. Both Beth Bauer and Jean Bartholomew did not make the cut for the final round.
Both Grzebien and Nirapathpongporn each earned conditional status on the 2008 LPGA Tour.
Two LPGA Sectional Qualifying Tournaments in Rancho Mirage, Calif., and Venice, Fla., were held to help determine the field for the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament. The top-30 finishers and ties from each sectional?31 from Rancho Mirage; 34 from Venice?advanced to the final stage and join 62 current LPGA Tour members who are trying to improve or retain their playing status for 2008. The field is completed by the eligible players who finished sixth through 15th on the final 2007 Duramed Futures Tour money list.
