Durham, N.C. ? Former Duke men's basketball player Dahntay Jones signed a contract with the Sacramento Kings of the NBA on Monday.
Jones, a first round selection (20th overall) by the Boston Celtics in the 2003 NBA Draft, spent his first four NBA seasons playing for the Memphis Grizzlies. In his career he is averaging 5.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. He has played in 221 career games. His best year, statistically, was last season when he averaged 7.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game for the Grizzlies.
A 2003 All-ACC selection for the Blue Devils, Jones played two seasons at Duke. He averaged 11.2 points and 4.3 rebounds in the 2001-02 season. As a senior in 2002-03 he led the team in scoring with 17.7 ppg. He also averaged 5.5 rebounds to help him earn All-ACC honors. He helped lead Duke to the 2003 ACC Tournament Championship and was named to the ACC All-Tournament second team.
Duke currently has 13 former players on NBA rosters, the most of any school in the ACC.
