Durham, N.C. ? Duke football players Patrick Bailey and Matt Rumsey were named to the 2007 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 3 team on Thursday.
The two seniors have been leaders on and off the field for the Blue Devils in their career and have both had good 2007 seasons.
Bailey, a defensive rush end from Elmendorf, Texas, started the first six games before suffering a season-ending injury. He posted 37 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, four quarterback pressures and one forced fumble. He has a 3.23 GPA and is majoring in electrical and computer engineering. Bailey was named to the All-District team for the second straight season.
Rumsey, a center from Dunwoody, Ga., has started all nine games this season and has anchored the offensive line for the past three years with 32 consecutive starts. He has played ever offensive snap in 2007 and now has over 2,000 career snaps. He has a 3.43 GPA and is majoring in political science. This is his first selection to the Academic All-District team.
The two are now eligible for Academic All-America selections. The Academic All-America teams will be released on November 29.
