Starting Streaks
Long snapper Casey Hales made his team-leading 43rd consecutive start. Matt Rumsey extended his starts streak to 32 straight games, earning the start at center. Junior wide receiver Eron Riley earned his 22nd straight starting nod. Three players have started 21 straight games with Zach Maurides and Rob Schirmann each starting on the offensive line and Vince Oghobaase playing defensive tackle at the start. Thaddeus Lewis has now started in 20 consecutive games.
Lewis to Riley
Thaddeus Lewis connected with Eron Riley on a touchdown pass for the eighth time this season. Lewis threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Riley in the fourth quarter. Riley leads the ACC with eight touchdown receptions on the season, which ties him for sixth on the Duke single season list. Riley moved into a tie with Scottie Montgomery and Stanley Dorsey for seventh on the career list with 13 career touchdowns.
Lewis Extends Touchdown Streak
The seven-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter gave Thaddeus Lewis a touchdown pass in 11 straight games. He has 18 touchdown passes this season and 29 in his career.
Big Plays in Passing Game
The 40-yard pass from Thaddeus Lewis to Eron Riley on Duke's second drive of the game was the 28th passing play of 20 or more yards this season. Riley has caught 12 passes of 20 or more yards to lead the team. Riley finished the game with two catches for 47 yards.
Harris Nets Career High
Junior running back Clifford Harris caught a career-high five passes for 40 yards in the game. His previous bests came earlier this season at Miami when he had three grabs for 48 yards.
Rucker Tallies Third Sack
Kinney Rucker recorded his third sack of the season in the first quarter dropping Cullen Harper for a loss of 12 yards. He has tallied a sack in three of the last four games. He has 0.5 sacks against Wake Forest and 1.5 sacks against Virginia Tech. Rucker now has 3.5 sacks in his career.
Tauiliili Moves into Tackles for Loss Top-10
Junior middle linebacker Michael Tauiliili recorded two sacks in the third quarter and had 2.5 tackles for loss to climb into a tie with Scott Youmans for eighth lace on Duke's career tackles for loss list. Tauiliili now has 30.0 tackles for a loss in his career, including 10 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks this season. He moved past Shawn Johnson and Charles Bowser on the career chart. His 10 tackles for a loss this season are a team high, and has now reached double figures in the TFL column in three consecutive seasons.
Sacks and Tackles for Loss
Duke recorded 10 tackles for a loss, including three sacks. Nine different players made a stop behind the line of scrimmage. For the season the Blue Devils have 19 sacks and 65 tackles for a loss.
Double Digit Tackles
Michael Tauiliili had a team-high 11 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss and two sacks in the game. It was his 10th career double digit tackle game and third this season. In 2007, he also had 15 tackles against Navy and 13 tackles against Virginia Tech.
Rey Causes Fumble
Vincent Rey tallied his first career caused fumble in the third quarter. Rey was Duke's leading tackler coming into the game with 83 tackles. He also has 2.5 sacks, a fumble recovery, a blocked kick and four pass breakups on the year.
Charles Robinson and Ryan Radloff Return to Lineup
Junior linebacker Charles Robinson and sophomore defensive end Ryan Radloff came off the bench in the first half. For Robinson it was his first game action since Duke's second game of the season. Robinson was injured at Virginia and has missed the last six games. Radloff has not played since the season-opener when he started against Connecticut. He has missed the last seven contests.
Maggio Makes First Career Field Goal Attempt
True freshman Nick Maggio converted his first career field goal attempt. He made the 30-yard try at the 9:36 mark in the fourth quarter.
Next Game
Duke will play its final home game of the 2007 season next Saturday, Nov. 10 when they welcome Georgia Tech to Durham for a 1 p.m. kickoff. The Blue Devils will honor 22 seniors prior to the game.
