DURHAM, N.C. - Former Duke All-America Lauren Gallagher Wray was named an assistant coach of the Lafayette (Pa.) women's lacrosse team. Wray joins head coach Kathy Frick and assistant coach Samantha Ziegler on the Leopards' staff.
“Lauren brings a tremendous amount of lacrosse knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to our program,” said Lafayette head coach Kathy Frick. “We are fortunate to have her join our staff.”
Wray joins Lafayette after serving as the head coach at Charlotte Catholic High School in Charlotte, N.C. Wray coached both the varsity and junior varsity teams for the 2005-2006 season, the school's inaugural year of competition. She also co-founded the Queen City Club travel team in Charlotte and helped manage and coach in 2005-2006.
A four-year letterwinner at Duke from 1999-2003, she played attack and amassed 140 goals and 53 assists throughout her career. Her 193 points rank fifth all-time for the Blue Devils. The three-time All-American was a team captain in her senior year. She was an undergraduate assistant with the team for the 2003-2004 season while finishing up her dual degree in mechanical engineering and economics.
Wray also brings international experience to the team. She coached at lacrosse clinics in Alberta, Canada, through the spring and summer of 2007. Wray also spent three years as a member of the U.S. Developmental Squad while in college, training under U.S. coaches Sue Murphy and Sue Stahl and competing with some of the best lacrosse players in the country.
Wray currently lives in Bethlehem with her husband, Taylor, whom she married this past summer.
