Starting Streaks
Long snapper Casey Hales made his team-leading 45th consecutive start. Matt Rumsey extended his starts streak to 34 straight games, earning the start at center. Junior wide receiver Eron Riley earned his 24th straight starting nod. Three players have started 23 straight games with Zach Maurides and Rob Schirmann each starting on the offensive line and Vince Oghobaase playing defensive tackle at the start. Thaddeus Lewis has now started in 22 consecutive games. Catron Gainey made his second start of the season and third of his career at strong safety. He also started against Virginia Tech earlier this season. Jabari Marshall drew his first career start. He started at cornerback in place of Glenn Williams who had started the previous 10 games.
Long Gains
Eron Riley hauled in a 28-yard catch in the first quarter for his 14th catch of 20 or more yards. Thaddeus Lewis has now thrown 30 passes of 20 yards or longer on the season.
100 Tackles
Two Duke players went over 100 tackles for the season Saturday. Michael Tauiliili had 12 tackles to give him 101 on the season. It is the first time in his career he has broken the century mark. He led the team in tackles the past two seasons with 92 as a freshman and 94 last year. Vincent Rey has also posted his first career 100-tackle season. In his first year as a starter, he has 107 tackles in 11 games. He only had 12 tackles in his freshman season. He had 10 tackles against Notre Dame.
Double Digit Tackles
Junior middle linebacker Michael Tauiliili tallied his fifth double-digit tackle game of the season with 12 tackles against Notre Dame. In his 34-game career, he has gone over the 10 tackle mark 12 times. Sophomore linebacker Vincent Rey and sophomore safety Catron Gainey added 10 tackles apiece. The Blue Devils have had 19 double-digit tackle performances in 2007.
Duke Sacks Clausen
The Blue Devils' defense recorded two sacks in the first half. Michael Tauiliili ran Irish quarterback Jimmy Clausen out-of-bounds for a two yard loss and his fourth sack of the season. He now has 13 tackles for loss on the season and 33 career tackles for loss. Vince Oghobaase also recorded a sack to give him 4.5 on the year and 5.5 for his career. He had two tackles for a loss in the game to give him 11 tackles for a loss on the season.
Pass Breakups
Jabari Marshall made the most of his first career start at cornerback with five tackles and three pass breakups in the game. Entering the weekend he only had 17 tackles on the season with one tackle for a loss.
Asack Scores TD
Sophomore quarterback Zack Asack scored on a six-yard quarterback keeper with 1:12 left in the game for Duke's lone touchdown of the day. Asack's six-yard run capped an eight play, 49-yard drive that took 2:30 off the clock. It was the first rushing touchdown of the season for Asack and the third of his career.
Next Game
Duke will end the season when they travel eight miles down the road to Chapel Hill to take on in-state rival North Carolina on Saturday, November 24. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
