Starting Streaks
Long snapper Casey Hales made his team-leading 40th consecutive start. Matt Rumsey extended his starts streak to 29 straight games, earning the start at center. Rush end Patrick Bailey has now started 26 consecutive games and Eron Riley earned his 19th straight starting nod. Three players have started 18 straight games with Zach Maurides and Rob Schirmann each starting on the offensive line and Vince Oghobaase playing defensive tackle at the start. Adrian Aye-Darko and Thaddeus Lewis have now started in 17 consecutive games. Austin Kelly earned his second career start.
Lewis to Riley
Thaddeus Lewis completed a 68-yard and a two-yard touchdown pass to Eron Riley. The two have now hooked up for a touchdown pass in the last three games and seven times this season. The 68-yard touchdown in the first quarter is the third touchdown over 60 yards this season for Riley as he also had touchdown catches of 76 and 69 yards at Navy on Sept. 22. Riley now has 12 touchdown receptions in his career.
Wright Catches Third Touchdown of Season
Jomar Wright caught a 31-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to give him three touchdown receptions on the season and seventh of his career. It was also his longest catch of 2007. His career long is 54 yards against Miami last year. The three touchdowns is the most Wright has had in a single season. His previous high was two in his junior campaign.
Kelly Grabs First Career Touchdown
True freshman Austin Kelly hauled in a 19-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter for his first collegiate touchdown. The freshman had a career-high three catches for 49 yards and one touchdown in his sixth career game. He now has six catches on the season for 90 yards and one touchdown.
Boyle Scores 17th Touchdown
Justin Boyle scored a three-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter for his first touchdown of the season. Boyle now has 17 career rushing touchdowns, tying him for tenth on Duke's career rushing touchdowns list.
Lewis Posts Second Four Touchdown Game
Thaddeus Lewis completed 21 of his 47 attempts for 291 yards and four touchdowns. His four touchdown performance was the third of his career as he also threw four touchdowns against North Carolina to end last season and Navy earlier this year. He now has 26 career touchdown passes in only 18 games, moving him past three former players into sixth on the career touchdown pass list at Duke. He is now one shy of currently Duke Radio sideline reporter Anthony Dilweg for fifth on the list. He also now has 3,625 career passing yards, which moves him into eighth all-time among Blue Devil quarterbacks.
Riley Records Fifth 100-Yard Game
Eron Riley finished the game with seven catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Riley has two games this season with over 100 receiving yards. He had six catches for 235 yards and four touchdowns at Navy. Riley now has five career 100-yard receiving games, tying him for fourth on Duke's career list.
Riley Tallies Career High for Catches
Eron Riley set a new career high for catches with eight against Wake Forest. He finished with eight catches for 143 yards and two touchdowns. His previous career high was six against Navy this year and Florida State last season.
Long Run for Boyette
Re'quan Boyette broke a 62-yard run in the third quarter, the longest running play of the season for the Blue Devils and second longest rush of Boyette's career. He had a 78-yard rush in 2005 against Florida State. He finished the game with a season-high 77 yards on just eight carries.
Interception by Davis
Chris Davis intercepted a Riley Skinner pass in the third quarter for his first interception of the season. He now has four career interceptions with one his freshman season against Clemson and two against Miami last year in Durham. The interception gives Duke seven interceptions in six games this season.
Double Digit Tackles
Vincent Rey, the current ACC leader in tackles, recorded his fifth double digit tackle game of the season in six games. He finished with 12 tackles to give him 72 at the midpoint of the season. He entered the week ranked sixth in the NCAA in tackles per game. Rey also had two tackles for a loss and teamed up with Kinney Rucker on a sack in the contest. Defensive back Glenn Williams also had a double digit tackle performance with 11 in the contest.
Safeties
The safety Duke had in the first quarter was its second safety of the season. Wake Forest's punter pitched the ball out of the back of the endzone after the snap went over his head. The Blue Devils also had a team safety against Connecticut in the season opener.
Next Game
Duke will play at home again next Saturday, October 13 when they host Virginia Tech for homecoming. Game time is set for 12 p.m. at Wallace Wade Stadium.
