CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The final match at the 2007 ITA Southeast Regional Championships will pit both of Duke's freshmen against each other, as Reka Zsilinszka and Ellah Nze will square off on Monday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Zsilinszka defeated Catherine Newman of Vanderbilt, 6-2, 6-3, to advance to the semifinals and earned a spot in the championship match with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Sasha Kulikova of Wake Forest.
Nze made her way to the regional final by posting a 6-3, 7-5 win over Laura Gioia of Furman and a 6-2,3-6,7-6(1) victory over Sanaz Marand of North Carolina.
In doubles action, the Duke duo of freshman Amanda Granson and junior Melissa Mang advanced to the semifinals by way of an 8-5 victory over Taka Bertrand and Catherine Newman of Vanderbilt. The tandem will take on Mijacika and Federica Van Adrichem of Clemson on Monday at 9 a.m.
Sophomore Elizabeth Plotkin withdrew from her quarterfinal singles match versus Kulikova.
The 2007 ITA Southeast Regional Championships will run from Oct. 17-22, with all matches set to be held at the University of North Carolina's Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Play began Wednesday with pre-qualifying and concludes on Monday with the championship matches.
