CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Three Blue Devil singles players and one Duke doubles team will continue action at the 2007 ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Sunday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Freshman Reka Zsilinszka posted a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Deanna Bailey of Elon before notching her third straight 6-0, 6-0 win with a victory over Laurianne Henry of North Carolina to reach quarterfinal action. Zsilinszka will face Catherine Newman of Vanderbilt at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday.
Sophomore Elizabeth Plotkin will be in action on Sunday versus Sasha Kulikova of Wake Forest, as she posted wins over Yevgenia Stupak of East Tennessee State (6-2) and Austin Smith of North Carolina (7-5;7-6(4)) to advance to the quarterfinals.
Freshman Ellah Nze won her first match on Saturday, defeating Anna Novo of USC Upstate, 6-2, 6-0, and went on to defeat Ghizella Schutte of Tennessee, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to move on to the quarterfinals.
Junior Melissa Mang defeated Laura Reichert, 6-3, 6-1, before falling to Catherine Newman of Vanderbilt, 6-4, 6-2, in the round 16.
Sophomore Amanda Granson defeated Estafania Balda of Clemson, 6-7(5),6-2,6-1, before falling to Sasha Kulikova of Wake Forest, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles action, the Duke duo of Granson and Mang defeated Laura Gioia and Lauren Osborne of Furman, 8-3, on Saturday and will face Taka Bertrand and Catherine Newman at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
Plotkin and Zsilinszka fell to Mijacika and Federica Van Adrichem of Clemson, 8-5 and Nze and junior Jessi Robinson fell to Ina Hadziselimovic and Alexandra Luc of Clemson, 8-3.
The 2007 ITA Southeast Regional Championships will run from Oct. 17-22, with all matches set to be held at the University of North Carolina's Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Play began Wednesday with pre-qualifying and concludes on Monday with the championship matches.
