Starting Streaks
Long snapper Casey Hales made his team-leading 41st consecutive start. Matt Rumsey extended his starts streak to 30 straight games, earning the start at center. Junior wide receiver Eron Riley earned his 20th straight starting nod. Three players have started 19 straight games with Zach Maurides and Rob Schirmann each starting on the offensive line and Vince Oghobaase playing defensive tackle at the start. Thaddeus Lewis has now started in 18 consecutive games. Senior rush end Patrick Bailey had his streak of 26 consecutive starts end after suffering an injury last week against Wake Forest. Starting in his place was Greg Akinbiyi, who made just his second career start. He also started at Virginia earlier this season. Adrian Aye-Darko's streak of 17 straight starts came to an end. Catron Gainey started in his place for his first start of the season and second career start.
Lewis Rushes for Touchdown
Thaddeus Lewis scored a one-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter for his second rushing touchdown of the season. He has 17 total touchdowns on the year with 15 passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. Lewis now has three career rushing touchdowns.
King of Touchdowns
Brandon King caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Thaddeus Lewis in the fourth quarter for his third receiving touchdown of the season. The touchdown pass was the 16th of the year for Lewis. King has caught six passes on the season with three of them going for touchdowns. He had two catches for 25 yards on the day.
Lewis Extends Touchdown Streaks
Thaddeus Lewis extended his streak of touchdown passes to nine consecutive games. He has thrown for a touchdown pass in every game this season and in 14 of his 19 career contests. He has 16 touchdown passes on the year, tying him for sixth on Duke's single season list. He has 27 career touchdown passes, placing him in fifth on the career charts.
Huffman Records First Catch
Redshirt freshman Brett Huffman hauled in the first catch of his career in the fourth quarter. He caught a three-yard pass from Zack Asack.
Big Day for Tauiliili
Junior middle linebacker Michael Tauiliili had a big day for the Duke defense with 13 tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss, 0.5 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery.
Double Digit Tackles
Michael Tauiliili posted his ninth career double digit tackle performance and second of the season. Tauiliili eclipsed the 10-tackle mark in the first half with 11 total tackles, including 1.5 tackles for a loss and 0.5 sacks. He finished the game with 13 tackles.
Tauiliili Gets Two Takeaways
Michael Tauiliili tallied his second interception of the season. He intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter. His two interceptions this season are the first two of his career. He also recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter, his first of the year. Chris Davis forced the fumble.
Duke Sacks the Quarterback
The Blue Devils defense recorded four sacks on the day. Kinney Rucker led the charge with 1.5 sacks on the afternoon to give him two for the season. Vince Oghobaase had one sack to move his season total to 2.5 sacks and give him 3.5 career sacks. Michael Tauiliili, Adrian Aye-Darko and Clifford Respress all had 0.5 sacks.
Tackles for Loss
The Duke defense finished the game with 11 tackles for a loss. There were 13 different players who contributed to the loss of 31 yards on the day. Michael Tauiliili and Kinney Rucker led the way with 1.5 tackles for a loss.
Next Game
Duke will have a bye weekend coming up next weekend. The Blue Devils' next game will be Saturday, Oct. 27 at Florida State. The game time is still TBA.
