Blumenherst Selected To NGCA All-American Scholar Team

CORAL SPRINGS, FLA ? Freshman Amanda Blumenherst was named to the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American Scholar Team for Division I on Monday, after posting a 3.87 grade point average in her first year at Duke University. Blumenherst stormed the women's golf scene in 2005-06 as she was named the National Player of the Year, National Freshman of the Year and earned first team All-America accolades, while leading Duke to back-to-back NCAA Championships.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II & III) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

Blumenherst, a freshman native of Scottsdale, Ariz., collected a 71.62 stroke average to go along with three victories, nine top-five and 11 top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments as a rookie with the Blue Devils. Her 71.62 stroke average was the second-lowest in school history and was the lowest in Duke history by a freshman. Ever since opening her collegiate career with an eight-under-par, 208, to claim medalist honors at the Mason Rudolph Collegiate Championship in September, Blumenherst was ranked No. 1 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index as well as the Golfstat Cup.

Only the second Duke golfer to be selected as the recipient of the Eleanor Dudley College Player of the Year, Blumenherst opened play as a collegian with nine straight rounds of even or under par, which broke a school record. She also joined former Blue Devils Beth Bauer (1999) and Brittany Lang (2004) as winners of the National Freshman of the Year award, while Blumenherst and teammate Liz Janangelo are the only Duke winners of the Golfstat Cup and National Player of the Year awards. Blumenherst also registered 24 rounds of even or under par, which broke the Duke single season record by five.

About the National Golf Coaches Association
The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The NGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the NGCA represents over 400 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
