DURHAM, N.C. - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced the Regional and National Coach of the Year recipients on June 12 with Duke's Kerstin Kimel receiving the South Regional Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
Kimel earned her second career IWLCA Regional Coach of the Year award in just her 11th season at Duke. Duke advanced to the Final Four for the second consecutive season and third time overall before falling in overtime, 11-10 to Northwestern. She led Duke to a school-record nine straight wins to start the season and entered the ACC Tournament with a 14-1 record. She led the Blue Devils to a school record 11 wins over ranked opponents with eight victories against top-10 squads, four of which were ranked among the top five. She also guided Duke to a season-most four wins in the ACC and a tie for first place in the regular season standings.
Kimel's team finished second in the nation in winning percentage (.857) and scoring margin (+7.14), third in scoring offense (14.81), and fifth in caused turnovers (11.71) and scoring defense (7.67).
The Blue Devils ended the season with an 18-3 record and were one of four Duke teams to appear in the Final Four this season.
