Today was the 36th meeting between Duke and Navy. Including today's result, Navy leads the all-time series vs. the Blue Devils, 19-12-5, including a 7-5-1 mark in games played in Durham.
Duke took the opening drive of the game down the field in five plays covering 70 yards in just 1:58. The drive was capped off by a one-yard touchdown run by sophomore RB Re'quan Boyette. The drive was highlighted by a 38-yard pass from Thaddeus Lewis to Eron Riley to put the ball at the Navy one-yard line. It was Duke's first touchdown in the opening quarter this season.
The TD score was the second of 2006 and the third in Boyette's career.
Sophomore WR Jabari Marshall entered the game ranked third in the ACC and 19th nationally with a 26.2 return average. Today vs. Navy, Marshall had five returns for 128 yards (25.6).
Junior RB Justin Boyle eclipsed 1,000 career rushing yards with today's 76-yard output. Boyle now has 1,051 rushing yards in his career. Boyle had his second-highest rushing output of the season with 76 yards today vs. the Midshipmen (previous high was 113 last week vs. Vanderbilt).
Two Blue Devils ? freshman DT Ayanga Okpokowuruk and junior DE Patrick Bailey ? each recovered their first career fumbles this afternoon vs. Navy. Senior CB John Talley also recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter. Overall, Duke recovered three of Navy's four fumbles.
With 181 passing yards, QB Thaddeus Lewis moved into fourth-place among freshmen in Duke football history with 1,481. Lewis passed Dave Brown (1,479 in 1989). Immediately ahead is Spence Fischer (1,505 in 1992).
Sophomore WR Eron Riley extended his consecutive reception streak to 15 games, which is currently the fifth-longest streak in the ACC. Riley had 88 yards on four receptions vs. Navy.
Senior LB Jeramy Edwards had a career-best 15 tackles this afternoon. His previous high was 12 vs. North Carolina in 2005. It was his fourth double-figure tackle game of 2006 and the fifth of his career.
With 13 tackles, sophomore LB Michael Tauiliili had his third double-digit tackle game of 2006 and the sixth of his career.
Senior LB Codey Lowe entered today's game with a team-best 11.5 tackles for losses. He added one vs. the Midshipmen.
Duke returns to action at Boston College on Nov. 11. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM for the game that will be televised by ESPNU.
