FLUSHING MEADOWS N.Y. - The Duke duo of Clelia Deltour and Parker Goyer won the Doubles B Flight Championship on Monday morning at the USTA Billie Jean King NTC Women's College Tennis Invitational. Deltour and Goyer combined to form the No. 1-seeded doubles team in the bracket.
The senior duo rolled over fifth-seeded Maria Anisimova and Charlie Tansil of Penn, 8-1, in the championship match, as Deltour and Goyer lived up to their No. 1 seed. The two recorded three wins on Sunday to reach the championship match, defeating Marlena Hall and Sydney Murray of Columbia, 8-4, Austin Hansen and Jessica Preeg of Virginia, 8-1, and Darcy Robertson and Joanna Roth of Princeton, 8-6. Deltour and Goyer also defeated Ira Aleksova and Lauren Leo of St. John's, 8-4, on the first day of action.
Also in championship action on Monday morning was third-seeded Kristin Cargill in the Singles B Flight. The senior posted three wins on Sunday to reach the championship match, but fell to Berkeley Brock of N.C. State, 7-6 (3), 6-4, in the final match. Cargill defeated Sara Mansur of Brown (6-2, 7-6(0)), fifth-seeded Alejandra Guerra of N.C. State (6-1, 6-1) and Penn's Tansil (7-5, 6-2) on day two of the invitational and also posted a victory over Sara Gilles-Madden of Army (6-3, 6-0) in the opening round on Saturday.
Members of the Duke women's tennis team will be in action next on Thursday, Oct. 12 as they travel down Tobacco Road to Chapel Hill for ITA Regional action. ITA Regionals will run through Monday, Oct. 16.
