CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Senior Parker Goyer and the doubles tandem of Goyer and classmate Clelia Deltour were the first to compete in ITA Regional competition on Thursday, as Goyer posted two singles victories in the qualifying bracket to move into the main draw and the two combined for a win in first-round doubles action.
Goyer defeated Paige Kensrue of Elon in straight sets (6-2, 7-5) in her first match of the day, and followed up by posting another two-set victory over Neils Barringer of N.C. State (7-5, 6-1). The senior moved into the main-draw bracket after the two-win day, and will meet Hala Sufi of Middle Tennessee State on Friday at 11 a.m.
Deltour and Goyer also posted a win on Thursday, defeating Elena Volohueva and Whitney Trotter of East Tennesse State, 8-2. The duo will meet Kim Coventy and Joelle Schwenk of Kentucky on Friday at 5 p.m.
Southeast Regional action will continue on Friday in Chapel Hill as four Blue Devil doubles teams and nine individuals are set to compete in the main draw.
In the doubles bracket, 46th-ranked Jessi Robinson and Melissa Mang will face off against Robyn White and Lauren Imre of Louisville at 5:30 p.m., while Kristin Cargill and Jennifer Zika are set to meet their opponent (TBA) at the same time. Amanda Granson and Tory Zawacki will meet Ali Piacente and Ana Spivakowsky of Charlotte at 6:30 p.m. All three teams received first-round byes.
In singles play, Robinson will be in action first as she squares off against 99th-ranked Ana Jerman of Wake Forest at 8 a.m. Cargill has the next match, as she faces Deanna Bailey of Elon at 9 a.m., and Zawacki and freshman Elizabeth Plotkin square off versus their opponents at 10:30 a.m. Zawacki will meet Selma Babic of Clemson and Plotkin will meet Alex Jurewitz of North Carolina.
Zika will meet Chelsea Albertz of Charleston at noon, with Granson set to square off against Miranda Gutierrez of USC at 12:30 p.m. Seventy-sixth-ranked Deltour will meet Ghizella Schuttle of Tennessee at 1:30 p.m. and 55th-ranked Mang will meet Kayla Schwenk of UNC-Wilmington at 2:30 p.m.
The Mideast Regional will run through Monday, Oct. 16 with all matches to be held at the University of North Carolina.
