PALO ALTO, CALIF.-- The shorthanded Duke Women's Golf Team remained in tied for fifth place at the Stanford Intercollegiate on Saturday as the Blue Devils carded a 293 and now owns a 36-hole total of 585 entering the final round at the 5,895-yard, par 71 Stanford Golf Course.
Leading the action after 36 holes is host Stanford (564) as the Cardinals posted a team-best round of 278 on Saturday, while Arizona (569), Georgia (570), Vanderbilt (580), New Mexico (585) and Duke (585) rounding out the top-6. Georgia's Whitney Wade leads the individual action with a six-under-par, 136.
For the second straight day, junior Jennifer Pandolfi had a stellar round for the Blue Devils as she turned in an even-par, 71. She enters the final round at two-under-par, 140, and is seventh. A product of Navarre, Fla., moved to two-under-par on two different occasions, but a double-bogey on the 18th hole led to an even-par day.
Freshman Alison Whitaker collected an even-par, 71, on the second day and is tied for 14th with a 143 as she enters the final round. Whitaker posted three birdies and three bogies on the day.
Another Blue Devil freshman, Rebecca Kim, registered her best 18-hole score of her early career on Saturday with a 75. Kim, who is from Tigard, Ore., totaled one birdie, three bogies and one double-bogey on her way to shooting four-over-par. She is tied for 61st with a 156.
Senior Anna Grzebien had a rocky day as she posted three birdies, six bogies, eight pars and one double-bogey on her way to shooting a 76. This came a day after Grzebien fired five birdies on her way to shooting one-under-par. A native of Narragansett, R.I., Grzebien enters the final day in tied for 24th place with a 146.
Yu Young Lee, a freshman from Orlando, Fla., continued to struggle in her first collegiate appearance with an 85. As a team, Duke collected 11 birdies and have totaled 24 over the weekend.
The Blue Devils were playing without the services of sophomores Amanda Blumenherst and Jennie Lee, who are each playing in the 2006 Women's World Amateur Team Championship in South Africa. Both Blumenherst and Lee were All-America selections last season.
Duke will tee off on Sunday beginning at 10:40 a.m. (EST) along with New Mexico and Vanderbilt.
