CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Freshman Amanda Granson and the Duke doubles tandem of sophomores Jessi Robinson and Melissa Mang will compete in the quarterfinals of ITA Mideast Regional action on Sunday.
Granson posted two wins on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinal match, defeating Vicki Jones of Tennessee (6-2, 6-2) and 63rd-ranked Caitlin Collins of North Carolina (6-2, 6-3). The freshman will meet Sanaz Marand of North Carolina on Sunday.
Forty-sixth-ranked Robinson and Mang defeated Jessica Giuggoili and Caroline Winebrennar of Kentucky, 8-6, and are set to meet Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk of Kentucky in the quarterfinal match on Sunday.
Also in action were the Duke duos of seniors Kristin Cargill and Jennifer Zika and Granson and senior Tory Zawacki. Cargill and Zika fell to Blakeley Griffith and Zsofia Zubor of Tennessee, 8-4, while Granson and Zawacki fell to Ani Mijacika and Carolina Salge of Clemson, 8-6.
In addition to Granson, five Blue Devils were in action in the singles main draw. Seventy-sixth-ranked senior Clelia Deltour fell to 94th-ranked Anastasia Zhukova of Tennessee-Chatanooga in straight sets (6-1, 6-2), while 55th-ranked Mang fell to 78th-ranked Ashlee Davis of Wake Forest, also in straiht sets (7-5, 6-4).
Freshman Elizabeth Plotkin posted a win over Yevgenia Stupak of East Tennessee State, 6-2, 6-4, before falling to 45th-ranked Carolina Salge of Clemson, 6-3, 6-4, in the round of 16. Cargill also fell in the round of 16, as the senior was defeated by Katrina Tsang of North Carolina in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-1). Robinson fell to Blakeley Griffith of Tennessee in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
Mideast Regional action will run through Monday, Oct. 16 with all matches to be held at the University of North Carolina.
