LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Three members of the Duke women's tennis team were defeated on Saturday in the pre-qualifying rounds of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships presented by FILA, held at UCLA.
Sophomore Jessi Robinson and freshmen Elizabeth Plotkin and Amanda Granson all were defeated in their first matches, as Robinson fell to Kelly Hyndman of Georgia (6-3, 6-3), Plotkin to Yvette Hyndman of Georgia (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) and Granson to Laura Vallverdu of Miami (6-3, 6-0).
Sophomore Melissa Mang, the 55th-ranked singles player in the nation, and senior Daniela Bercek, the sixth-ranked singles player in the nation, will join Plotkin and Robinson in California this week for doubles qualifying and main-draw action. Mang and Bercek will also be active in singles play.
