DURHAM, N.C. ? Monique Currie kept Duke in the game in the first half and then the rest of the team blew out Wake Forest in the second half Monday at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke improves to 12-0, 1-0 in the ACC, while Wake Forest falls to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in the league after posting a 100-54 victory over the Demon Deacons.
After playing less than 60 hours after a pair of games in San Diego, Calif., Currie hit three buckets before the first media timeout and scored 12 points as Duke held a 30-23 lead at the five minute mark of the first half.
Duke ended the first half on a 12-3 run as Currie scored twice more for 16 first-half points as Duke led 42-25. Duke scored the first six points of the second half and an Abby Waner three-pointer just four minutes in gave Duke a 25-point, 55-30 lead. Another 17-2 run shortly after that put Duke up 76-37 as Jessica Foley hit a three-pointer and a jumper in that run.
Wake Forest scored six straight points at that point but Duke would outscore the Demon Deacons 24-11 the rest of the way for the 100-54 final score. The last eight minutes of the game saw Chante Black score nine points and Carrem Gay seven as that duo scored all 10 points in a late-game 10-0 run.
As has been the case for most of the season, all 11 Duke players that saw action scored. Currie didn't score in the second half, but didn't need to. Mistie Williams had an impressive game with 12 points, eight rebounds and a game-high six assists and also added two blocks and a steal. Lindsey Harding scored 14 points and had four assists against just one turnover while running the offense.
Black finished with a double-double with 13 points and a Duke season-high 14 rebounds with her game-high three blocks off the bench. Jessica Foley also had a strong performance off the bench with nine points as she hit 4-of-5 from the floor and added three assists to her performance.
