DURHAM, N.C. ? Monique Currie recorded the school's second triple-double with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists as the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils defeated Florida State 87-68 Thursday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The game marked Currie's third 20-point performance of the season while her rebound and assist marks were season highs. The only other triple-double in school history came nearly 20 years ago as Katie Meier had 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists against Manhattan on March 3, 1987.
Alison Bales just missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds while Mistie Williams scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds of her own with an impressive 7-of-9 performance from the field.
Lindsey Harding score 12 points for the Blue Devils while Abby Waner had seven points and five rebounds to round out the starting line-up. Wanisha Smith led the way off the bench for Duke with eight points and three assists.
Currie scored the game's first eight points in the first two minutes of action. After Duke held a 14-2 lead after four minutes of action, the rest of the game was relatively close. A couple of Abby Waner free throws gave Duke its first 20 point lead at 49-29, but the Seminoles would close the half on a 6-0 run to cut the lead back down to 14.
Duke held its big lead of 23 at the 12 minute mark of the second half before the Seminoles went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 14 at 69-55 with 10 minutes remaining. The game would go back-and-forth with the lead fluctuating between 14 and 19 the rest of the game.
