Though this is the first meeting between the two schools in postseason action, the programs are well acquainted. Duke holds a 4-1 advantage in the all-time series, including an 18-6 win earlier this season in Durham. The Blue Devils, who have now won four-straight games versus the Spiders, were led by Katie Chrest, Kristen Waagbo, Rachel Sanford and Leigh Jester, who each scored three goals in the win on March 6. Duke built up a 10-4 halftime lead in the game before jumping out to a 10-goal advantage early in the second period to cruise to the win.
After starting out the year 2-7, the Spiders come into the first NCAA Tournament in school history with a seven-game win streak and an Atlantic 10 Championship in tow. Caroline McGuire leads the team in almost every aspect of the game, including goals (42), shots (105), game-winning goals (6), ground balls (48), draw controls (33) and caused turnovers (32). In goal, Jackie Swansburg has recorded seven 10+ save performances, including a season-high 12 against Virginia and La Salle.
