GREENSBORO, N.C. - Junior Tewaaraton Trophy nominee Katie Chrest earned co-ACC Player of the Week honors after leading the second-ranked Blue Devils past Loyola 14-10 Saturday. The Hampstead, Md. native scored a school record seven goals in the win, including four of the team's five goals in the first half to garner conference honors for the third time this season and fifth overall.
Duke's three-time leading scorer earned Player of the Week honors once in each of her first two seasons before taking them following wins over Maryland and Virginia in 2005. She is the only women's lacrosse player in the ACC to be named Player of the Week more than once this season.
Chrest tied the previous record of six goals, set by Tricia Martin on three occasions and Meghan Walters on one, earlier this season against William & Mary on March 4. She also registered seven ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls in the win over Loyola.
Chrest shares this week's honor with Maryland's Delia Cox who scored four goals and registered one assist as the ninth-ranked Terps downed No. 6 North Carolina 14-7. The Newbury, Mass., native also recorded three ground balls and one draw control as well as a season high five points.
The Blue Devils return to action Friday, April 22 against Virginia Tech to round out the ACC regular season before heading to the conference championships at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Md.
