Duke's Nathan Smith Wins Azalea Amateur Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Blue Devil junior Nathan Smith fired rounds of 65, 69 and 67 to win the rain-shortened Azalea Amateur Invitational at the Country Club of Charleston. Smith topped Erik Flores by two shots. Sunday's final round was cancelled because of inclement weather all along the east coast.
The junior's first-round 65 was his best 18-hole score of the season and the win greatly improves his chances of earning a spot on the Walker Cup team.
Smith and the Blue Devils return to action this weekend at the Augusta State Invitational at Forest Hills Country Club in Augusta, Ga.
