Duke's Matt Danowski and Matt Zash both have been named to the initial 37-member watchlist for the Tewaaraton Award, announced on Wednesday by the Tewaaraton Award Foundation. The Tewaaraton Award is given annually to the nation's top player.
Danowski, a sophomore attackman from Farmingdale, N.Y., received honorable mention All-America and ACC Rookie of the Year honors in 2004 after leading Duke in scoring with 42 points on 23 goals and 19 assists. He also earned a spot on the ACC All-Tournament Team after a four-goal, one-assist performance in Duke's 10-7 semifinal loss to Maryland.
Zash, a junior midfielder from Massapequa, N.Y., earned honorable mention All-America and All-ACC accolades a season ago after totaling 17 points on 13 goals and four assists. A co-captain of the 2005 Blue Devil team, Zash is a preseason Second Team All-America selection by Face-Off Magazine and Inside Lacrosse.
