Eddie Cameron retired from Duke in 1972 after serving the University for over 47 years as a coach and administrator. He became head basketball coach in 1929 and in 14 years he won 226 games and lost only 99. He won Southern Conference basketball titles in 1938, 1941 and 1942.
In 1942 Cameron became head football coach and guided the Blue Devils to a four-year mark of 25-11-1. He never lost a football game to rival North Carolina and gave Duke its first Bowl win, a 29-26 victory over Alabama in the 1945 Sugar Bowl.
During his career he produced two basketball and six football All-Americas. His football teams also won three straight Southern Conference titles.
Following his coaching career, Cameron became athletic director in 1951 and was one of the founders of the Atlantic Coast Conference. He also served on many NCAA committees and also Olympic groups.
