CHAPEL HILL, N.C.?With 18 holes remaining, the top-ranked Duke Women's Golf team heads into Sunday's action at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational with a four-stroke lead over Auburn at the 6,285-yard, Par 72 Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Blue Devils are looking to claim their ninth consecutive Lady Tar Heel Invitational title.
After carding an opening round score of 294 on Friday, the Blue Devils turned in a 288 on Saturday and owns a 36-hole total of 582. Auburn (586), Vanderbilt (591), Wake Forest (595), Texas A&M (598), Virginia (603), Ohio State (605), Louisiana State (614), North Carolina (298) and Florida State (615) round out the top 10.
If the Blue Devils claim the team title on Sunday, the victory for Head Coach Dan Brooks will be the 91st of his career, which will tie Mark Gale's record of 91, who coached at San Jose State, for the most in Division I women's history.
Three different Blue Devils collected rounds of even par or better on the day with freshman Jennie Lee registering a Duke best with a 69. A day after posting her worst collegiate round of her career with an 80, Lee sank four birdies to go along with only one bogey and is now tied for 17th, overall (149).
For the second straight day, freshman Amanda Blumenherst fired an even-par, 72, and is tied for fourth, overall (144). A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., Blumenherst is eight strokes off the individual lead of 136 held by Ashley Knoll of Texas A&M. Blumenherst also totaled four birdies on the morning.
After being tied for the individual lead after day one, junior Anna Grzebien finished Saturday's action with a 75 and is tied for sixth (145). Senior Liz Janangelo turned in an even-par, 72, on day two and is also tied for sixth (145). A West Hartford, Conn., product, Janangelo also posted four birdies on the day, including three over her final seven holes.
Sophomore Jennifer Pandolfi finished the day with a 77 and is tied for 46th with a (156).
Duke will tee off on Sunday beginning at 9:00 a.m. on holes one, two and three in a shotgun start for the final round.
