Head Coach Ted Roof
On the third quarter:
“Well, I tell ya. We came out and didn't move the ball and punted. They took a drive down and we had a goal line stand. That really injected some juice and got us believing again. You could see it ? people were all over each other. Then, we turned it over on the first play, which resulted in a touchdown. The other two interceptions resulted in scores. Like I have said so many times-- this football team -- where we are right now, we don't have the margin for error to continually overcome. We can overcome some things but we cannot overcome the continuous short field in all phases. There was an eight-minute stretch...we cannot make those mistakes and beat a good team.”
“We came into this game together, we played together and we are going to move on together from here. At the same time, or goal is not to play a good first half and be competitive, our goal is to win. All of us have to find a way to do a little more and help us not make some of the mistakes we are making right now. As far as the character of the football team and the belief, I am proud of these guys and we have to find a way to get better.”
On Freshman Quarterback Zack Asack:
“I am very proud of Zack. This is tough duty to be thrown into a major college football program as a freshman. He just keeps fighting and keeps getting better. The way we have to approach Zack and approach this deal is this is a learning experience for Zack. I am quite sure that he is not going to make those mistakes again because nobody wants it any worse for Zack to play well than Zack. The unfortunate part is there is a growth curve there. We would like to be strong in other areas that we could mask that a little bit, which we are not right now. We are fighting through a lot of things at a lot of positions right now. It is not to a point where we are dominate in another area to help him mask that, which happens at some programs, where they are dominate at another position or area where they can take some heat off it. The heat is kind of divided evenly right now and we all, like I said, have to find a way to do a little more.”
Junior Deonto McCormick
“It seems like we always start the game riding high, but in the second half we just slack off. We play hard but costly mistakes cost us the second half.”
“We just have to stick together. We always play hard. It comes to a point when you have to make plays and execute throughout the whole game. We have to stay together before that will happen.”
Georgia Tech Quotes
Head Coach Chan Gailey
"What we've proven is that we can play from behind and play good in the second half. Now we've got to put four quarters together. That's the objective. Let's see how somebody else feels playing from behind."
On the depth at running back:
"We needed it and we got it. I thought Tashard [Choice] ran very, very well. And I thought the things we asked Chris Woods to do he did fine and Rashaun [Grant] ran it well at the end there."
On Darrell Robertson's interception:
"That was a big play in the game, really, when he intercepted that thing and ran it in. That was a big play in the game because it almost put the thing out of reach right there. If we didn't turn it over or do something stupid, I thought we had a hard time losing it from that point on."
Redshirt Sophomore Running Back Tashard Choice
On having a 100-yard rushing game:
"[The last time I rushed for 100 yards was] the last game of high school, which we lost, so it felt could to get a chance. That's the most important thing, get a win. So I was proud of that."
"I didn't know if P.J. [Daniels] was going to play or not, so I was ready to come out. I thought I would get more carries and I probably would start the game, but even if I didn't I was ready to go. Every chance to tote it in the second half really got me into the game."
Redshirt Sophomore Linebacker Philip Wheeler
On his interception:
"I really had to work for that one. The other ones, a couple of them were tips or whatever and the quarterback was being pressured. It was actually a play action, and I had to get back in coverage. I got to my receiver and saw the ball and just went for it."
On the importance of getting a win after losing the last two games:
"We try to forget about that, but every win is a good win. We want to win them all, but we try to forget about the past games and just focus on the next one."
Redshirt Senior Linebacker Gerris Wilkinson
On halftime:
"Not too much was said. We knew what we needed to do. The turnovers put us in a couple of bad positions on defense, but we knew what we had to get done."
In regard to Georgia Tech's loss at Duke in 2003:
"I had a little flashback myself, knowing that we didn't want that to happen again. Especially having the senior leadership that we have, having people on this team that have been through that, we definitely didn't want a repeat of that."
