Today marked the 35th meeting between the Blue Devils and the Midshipmen. Navy now leads the all-time series, 18-12-5, including a 6-5-1mark in Durham.
Duke dropped to 35-45-1 in Homecoming games. Today marked the third time that Navy has been Duke's Homecoming opponent. The Midshipmen have won two of those three contests.
Duke's offense held the football for a season-best 39:02 minutes this afernoon. The Blue Devils' 179 total rushing yards were their second-highest output of the year.
In games played on Oct. 1, Duke fell to 10-2 all-time.
Zack Asack became the first true freshman QB to start at Duke since Steve Slayden did it vs. Army on Sept. 29, 1984. Asack established career highs in passing attempts (16), completions (12), passing yards (111), rushing attempts (17) and rushing yards (58). He had his first career rushing touchdown with a six-yard scramble with 3:20 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore TB Justin Boyle recorded his fifth rushing touchdown of the season and seventh of his career this afternoon. He ended the afternoon with 64 yards rushing on 16 carries.
Junior CB John Talley recorded his third interception of the season today and the ninth of his career (that is an ACC high among active players). With his 33-yard interception return in the opening quarter today, he moved into second place among Duke's career interception return yard leaders with 240 yards. Immediately ahead in first place is Fred Folger with 283 yards.
Freshman K Joe Surgan connected on his first career field goal today, a 43-yarder with 7:58 left in the third quarter. He added a 40 -yarder in with 14:12 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Although it does not count as a reception statistically, freshman WR Eron Riley recorded his first career catch on a two-point conversion to tie the game at 21-21 with 3:20 left in the fourth quarter.
Junior WR Deon Adams had a career-high four receptions for 48 yards today.
Freshman WR Ryan Wood had his first career reception this afternoon. He ended the game with three catches for 20 yards.
Duke travels to Miami next week to face the Hurricanes. Kickoff on Oct. 8 is set for 3:30 PM in the Orange Bowl. Following that contest, Duke has three consecutive home games at Wallace Wade Stadium against Georgia Tech, Florida State and Wake Forest.
