Duke seniors Meghan Miller and Meghan Walters were named IWLCA/US Lacrosse second team All-Americas on Tuesday, June 1. Sophomore Katie Chrest garnered third team recognition. The Blue Devil trio guided the team to a 13-6 record and the program's seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in 2004.
Miller, a second team All-America last year, finished the season ranked fifth in the ACC in caused turnovers (1.32 ctpg.). The Severna Park, Md., native also led the Blue Devils with 48 ground balls, while adding 15 goals and 29 draw controls.
Walters, a senior defender, led the conference in draw controls (54) and finished second with 31 caused turnovers. She also set career-highs in goals (19), assists (6) and points (25). Walters was a second team All-America in 2001 and a third team selection in 2000.
Chrest earned third team All-America honors after leading the Blue Devils in points (54), goals (43) and shots (116). The Hampstead, Md., native ranked in the top five of the ACC in goals, points, game-winning goals and shots.
NOTES: In other All-America honors, womenslacrosse.com named Miller a first team All-America with Walters claiming second team recognition ... Miller and Walters were also named second team All-Americas by Inside Lacrosse ... a pair of Duke freshmen, Leigh Jester and Kristen Waagbo, were named to the womenslacrosse.com All-Rookie Team. Waagbo led the Blue Devils with 19 assists, while finishing second on the team with 22 goals and 41 points. Jester collected 27 points (23 goals and four assists) and played well in the midfield coming up with 25 ground balls and 25 draw controls.
