Sophomore Clara Horowitz earned All-America distinction with a fifth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run to conclude the season for the Duke women's track and field team Saturday night at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Championships at Myers Stadium.
Horowitz crossed the finish line in a time of 16:34.44 to take fifth place in the race. With her finish, the Berkeley, Calif., native becomes just the fourth Duke woman to earn All-America honors for outdoor track, joining Ellison Goodall (1978), Ellen Reynolds (1985-86) and Jillian Schwartz (2000-01).
Also competing at 5000m was fellow sophomore Sally Meyerhoff, who finished 19th overall with a mark of 17:19.03.
Due to Horowitz's showing on Saturday, the Blue Devils completed the 2004 NCAA Track & Field Championships with four points to finish tied for 48th in the team standings.
