The Duke University women's lacrosse team, 7-3 on the season, jumped two spots to fourth in the latest IWLCA poll. The Blue Devils posted a 10-9 win over then No. 4 Virginia on Saturday, April 3 to claim the ACC regular season championship in their last outing.
For the seventh consecutive week, Princeton (9-0) occupies the top spot in the poll. Georgetown (7-1), Notre Dame (8-0) are ranked second and third with Duke and Loyola (11-1) rounding out the top five. Virginia slipped two spots to sixth in this week's poll.
The Blue Devils travel to Baltimore, Md. on Friday, April 9 for a 4:00 p.m. contest with No. 5 Loyola. Friday's contest is Duke's seventh consecutive match against a nationally ranked opponent, including five games versus top-five teams. Loyola leads the all-time series 1-0 with a 7-6 win over Duke during the 2001 NCAA Tournament.
Sophomore Katie Chrest leads the Blue Devils with 24 goals and 30 points in 2004 with freshman Kristen Waagbo pacing the team in assists (13), ranking third in goals (13) and second in points (26). Junior Kristy Dirks has 14 goals, including four in the win over Virginia, while senior Corinne Broesler has 13 goals this season.
