The Blue Jays jumped on top early as Meagan Voight scored an unassisted goal just 39 seconds into the contest. Voight added another goal with Erin Riordan assisting on the play at the 4:20 mark to give Johns Hopkins a 2-0 lead.
Juniors Kristy Dirks and Stefanie Sparks combined to cut the Duke deficit in half with 6:06 gone as Dirks deposited a Sparks centering pass into goal for her 16th goal of the season. Jester tied the contest at 2-2 less than two minutes later with a free position goal.
Senior Corinne Broesler spun by a Johns Hopkins defender and fired a shot into the top right corner of the cage to give Duke a 3-2 advantage at the 18:22 mark. Sparks then collected her second assist of the day when she found sophomore Katie Chrest wide open in front of the Hopkins cage. Chrest slipped the shot into the back of the net for her team-leading 30th goal at the 22:41 mark.
Duke pushed the lead to 5-2 with 24:05 gone by as Waagbo scored off a Chrest pass, but the Blue Jays answered back with Key setting up Riordan for her 18th goal of the year with just under three minutes left in the first half.
The Blue Devils got a huge momentum swing late in the half as Meghan Walters earned a free position shot with just three seconds remaining. The senior defender fired a shot by Johns Hopkins goalie Lauren Riddick for her 10th goal in the last three games. Walters now has 17 goals on the season.
Hopkins came out in the second half with back-to-back goals to cut the Duke advantage down to one goal. Key started the rally 2:58 into the half with her 42nd goal in 2004. Just over two minutes later, Voight added her third goal of the day with Riordan collecting her second assist.

Lauren Kickham pushed the lead to 8-5 at 38:12 with her third goal of the season. The senior attack cradled the ball across the front of the cage and slipped a shot into the top right of the cage.
Key and Voight sparked another comeback to bring Johns Hopkins back to within one goal. Key scored an unassisted goal while falling to the ground at the 46:17 mark and then assisted on Voight's fourth goal of the day at 48:38 to cut the Duke lead to 8-7.
After a Blue Jay penalty on the ensuing draw control, Waagbo collected a Dirks pass in the open field and beat the Hopkins goalie in a one-on-one situation at the 49:02 mark. Waagbo then assisted on Michelle Menser's 14th goal of the season with 4:07 left to play, giving Duke a 10-7 edge.
