The Duke University women's lacrosse team, 8-4 on the year, hosts No. 20 Stanford (7-5) on Friday, April 16 at 7:00 p.m. The Blue Devils, ranked sixth in the latest IWLCA poll, also have a home contest against No. 9 Johns Hopkins (11-1) on Sunday, April 18 at 12:00 p.m. Sunday's contest is a makeup game from a Feb. 29 contest that was rescheduled because of inclement weather.
Duke has been strong at home in 2004, posting a 4-1 record with the lone setback being a 9-8 loss to Georgetown on March 21. The Blue Devils are coming off a two-game road trip last weekend. Duke dropped a 10-8 decision to Loyola on Friday, before rebounding for a 12-8 win over Richmond on Sunday.
Sophomore Katie Chrest leads Duke in shots (76), points (34) and goals (27), while Kristen Waagbo is the team leader in assists with 15. Waagbo also ranks second on the team in goals (15) and points (30). Kristy Dirks (15 goals), Michelle Menser (13 goals), Corinne Broesler (14 goals, six assists) and Meghan Walters (13 goals) help balance the Blue Devil attack that is averaging 10.51 goals per game.
On the defensive side of the field, senior Meghan Miller, junior Stefanie Sparks and goalie Megan Huether are anchoring a unit that is allowing 8.21 goals per game. Miller leads Duke with 18 caused turnovers, ranks second with 25 ground balls and has 20 draw controls. Sparks has collected 11 caused turnovers and 16 ground balls, while Huether has 108 saves, 30 ground balls and six caused turnovers.
