The Spiders scored the first goal of the game when Berlacher converted the free position attempt at the 26:34 point. Walters knotted the contest just over five minutes later and Courtney Fischer scored her first goal of the season between a pair of Richmond markers.
Leigh Jester broke a 2-2 tie with 12:52 left in the first half and the Blue Devils went on to score the next four goals of the half to take a 7-3 lead at halftime. Walters tallied three goals in the final 10 minutes of the half, while Kristy Dirks added her 15th goal of the season.
In the second half, the Blue Devils took a five-goal advantage after Michelle Menser scored with 23:47 left in the game. The Spiders scored three straight scores, two coming from Jen Cielewich, to reduce the Blue Devils' lead to just two.
Duke answered back with a trio of goals of their own with Walters sandwiching a pair of goals around a Meghan Miller marker. After Richmond got a goal from Libby Berlacher, Katie Chrest scored her team leading 27th goal of the season.
Richmond goalie Jackie Swansburg made 11 saves while Megan Huether recorded 10 stops for the Blue Devils.
Walters joins Tricia Martin as the only Blue Devils to register six goals in a contest. Martin, Duke's all-time leading goal scorer, collected six goals on three separate occassions during her career.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday, April 16 when they host Stanford at 7:00 p.m.
