BALTIMORE, Md. - Blue Devil junior Katie Chrest advanced the final round of tryouts for the U.S. Team for the 2005 International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations World Cup, as announced by national Head Coach Sue Stahl.
Chrest, along with 33 other players, wrap up the tryout process on Jan. 22-23 in Orlando, Fla., competing for 24 available roster spots. Among these athletes, only five (including Chrest) are current college players and of the remaining four, three attend ACC schools.
Chrest earned third team All-America honors after leading the Blue Devils in points (54), goals (43) and shots (116) after the 2004 season. The Hampstead, Md., native ranked in the top five of the ACC in goals, points, game-winning goals and shots.
Also in the running is former Blue Devil Kate Kaiser, who graduated in 2003 after a record-setting career at Duke. Kaiser holds records for most games played and started in a career, in addition to being second in goals scored (154) and third in overall points (174).
The 2005 IFWLA World Cup, featuring a record 10 countries, will be hosted by US Lacrosse from June 23 to July 2 at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
