The Duke golf staff has announced the signing of three recruits for the 2005-06 season. Andrew Giuliani, Justin Hare and Clark Klaasen will all enroll at Duke in the fall to compete for the Blue Devils, who are currently ranked 16th in the nation.
Giuliani will begin his senior spring season at St. Joseph Regional in Montvale, N.J. in 2005. In 2004, he won the parochial section of the New Jersey State High School Championship and finished in the top five overall. His team at St. Joseph won the state tournament and was ranked first in the nation. Giuliani was also a standout place-kicker for the St. Joseph football team. He is the son of Rudolph Giuliani and Donna Hanover.
Hare, a native of Charleston, S.C., plays his high school golf at Porter-Gaud in Charleston. He was a three-time medalist at the SCISA State Championships and also placed 24th at the 2004 Azalea Invitational, one of the nation's top amateur tournaments. Also in 2004, Hare won the Carolina Golf Association Junior Match Play title and competed in the U.S. Junior Amateur. An excellent student, Hare boasts a 4.32 GPA and earned the David Parrott Memorial Award, given annually to "the junior golfer in the Carolinas demonstrating the best performance, sportsmanship and academics." He is also a member of the National Spanish Honor Society and the Junior National Honor Society. Justin is the son of Cantey and Kathy Hare.
Klaasen, a product of Grand Rapids, Mich., played high school golf as a freshman at Grand Rapids Christian, but chose to play soccer for his final three seasons. Still, he kept his golf resume sharp and will play as a Blue Devil next year. Klaasen was ranked as high as 42nd on Golfweek's list of junior golfers and competed in such events as the Footjoy Invitational and the Rolex Tournament of Champions. He also posted top-10 finishes at the Boyne Highlands (2nd) and at the Columbus Junior (6th). Clark is the son of Bruce and Ranay Klaasen.
