The Duke women's lacrosse 2004 freshman class is ranked second in the country, behind only Princeton, in the latest issue of Inside Lacrosse. Head coach Kerstin Kimel has brought in seven high school standouts, including four members of the national Under-19 team, for the 2004 season.
The four Under-19 team members; Leigh Jester, Michelle Menser, Rachel Sanford and Kristen Waagbo are joined in the class by highly regarded prospects Meghan Ferguson, Meeghan Ford and Kim Wathey.
Waagbo, tabbed by Inside Lacrosse as the top overall recruit, led the Under-19 team with 44 points this summer. Jester, Menser, Sanford and Waagbo are all listed among 14 Blue Chip prospects identified by Inside Lacrosse, while Ford is a honorable mention player to watch.
Ferguson, an USLacrosse Academic All-America in 2002, and Wathey, a three-year team captain and team leading scorer, provide depth to possibly the strongest recruiting class during Kimel's tenure at Duke.
"I am thrilled with the quality of student-athletes that will be joining our team this season. All are exceptional students, highly competitive athletes and outstanding young women," said Kimel. "This group is probably our strongest recruiting class to date."
