Duke University women's lacrosse head coach Kerstin Kimel recently announced the promotion of Allison Valentino. Valentino, entering her sixth year with the Blue Devils, works with the Duke offense as well as serving as the primary goalie coach. In addition to her coaching duties, she acts as the recruiting coordinator.
"I am pleased to elevate Allison to the position of Associate Head Coach. She has been my trusted and loyal assistant for the last five seasons and has earned this distinction through hard work, unwavering commitment and total dedication to our players and Duke Lacrosse," said Kimel. "She is one of the top assistant coaches in the nation and I feel that we are incredibly fortunate to continue to have her presence in our program as a coach and recruiting coordinator. This is the most appropriate way to reward her for her service to the program."
A 1997 Loyola College graduate, Valentino spent one year as a volunteer assistant coach at Loyola before arriving in Durham. In her first two years at Duke, Valentino primarily worked with the offensive unit. For the past three seasons, she has worked with both the offensive and defensive unit as well as goalies.
As the primary recruiting coordinator, Valentino has helped the Blue Devils bring in top recruiting classes each of the past four years. Duke's 2003 crop of top recruits includes four members off the U.S. Under-19 team. During the off-season, Valentino also serves as the Duke women's lacrosse winter camp program director.
As a player, Valentino was a two-time All-CAA selection and earned IWLCA All-America accolades in 1996 and 1997. She led the team to three NCAA Tournament Final Fours and a spot in the 1997 national championship match. Valentino played on the Loyola team which earned the No. 1 ranking and won a school-record 16 matches in 1994. She finished her career with 71 goals and 49 assists for 120 points.
A native of Fulton, Md., Valentino earned her Master's in Clinical Psychology at Loyola in 1998.
