The Duke University women's lacrosse team continues its four-game road trip on Wednesday, April 2 when they take on #20 Vanderbilt in a 3:00 p.m. contest. The Blue Devils, ranked third in the latest IWLCA poll, are 9-1 on the season with a six-game win streak, Vanderbilt is 3-4 overall and ranked 20th in the national poll.
Freshman Katie Chrest continues to lead the Blue Devils offense with 27 goals, 11 assists and 38 points. In Duke's 12-7 win over #17 Stanford on Saturday, Chrest collected three goals and three assists. Seniors Lauren Gallagher (19 goals, 10 assists), Kate Kaiser (21 goals, two assists) and Jessica Bennett (18 goals, five assists) provide balance to the team's attack.
Freshman goalie Megan Huether has been solid between the pipes for the Blue Devils, with 70 saves and a 6.20 goals against average. Assisting the young goalie is an experienced defensive group led by junior Meghan Walters (19 caused turnovers, 27 ground balls) and Caline McHenry (14 caused turnovers, 24 ground balls). Junior Meghan Miller has been a vital part of both groups with five goals, five assists and team-highs with 23 caused turnovers and 27 ground balls.
The Blue Devils will also be in action on Sunday, April 6 when they face ACC rival Virginia at 1:00 p.m.
Special Note: Duke's Wednesday, April 23 contest at James Madison has been moved from a 3:00 p.m. start to a 6:00 p.m. start time.
