Duke freshman Katie Chrest (Hampstead, Md.) was named the Inside Lacrosse women's Player of the Week on Tuesday after guiding the Blue Devils to a pair of non-conference victories over #6 Princeton and #3 Georgetown.
The freshman attacker recorded seven goals in the two games, comprising nearly one-third of Duke's offense for the week. Versus the Tigers, Chrest registered three goals in the 8-4 Duke victory. The Hampstead, Md., native then had four goals, an assist and caused two turnovers in the Blue Devils' 14-11 win over #3 Georgetown on Saturday. Chrest leads Duke with 24 goals and 32 points this season, ranking second on the team with eight assists. Her goal total is already the fourth-highest freshman total in Duke history with her 32 points ranking fifth all-time among Blue Devil freshman.
Duke, ranked third in the latest IWLCA poll, also jumped to the second slot in the Inside Lacrosse rankings. The Blue Devils, winners of five straight, own an 8-1 record on the season with a 4-1 ledger against nationally ranked foes.
The Blue Devils return to action when they face No. 17 Stanford on March 29 in a road contest.
