The Duke University women's lacrosse team begins a four-game road trip on Saturday, March 22 when they take on third-ranked Georgetown in a 12:00 p.m. contest. The Blue Devils, ranked fourth in the latest IWLCA poll, are 7-1 on the season with a four-game win streak, while the Georgetown Hoyas are 5-0 overall and ranked one spot ahead of Duke in the national poll.
Duke has been strong offensively and defensively in 2003, out-scoring the opposition 103-44 through the first eight games. The big three of Katie Chrest (20 goals, seven assists), Lauren Gallagher (17 goals, seven assists) and Kate Kaiser (18 goals, one assist) have anchored the offense, which averages 12.88 goals per game.
Freshman goalie Megan Huether has been solid between the pipes for the Blue Devils, with 55 saves and a 5.50 goals against average. Assisting the young goalie is an experienced defensive group led by junior Meghan Walters (15 caused turnover, 22 ground balls) and Caline McHenry (14 caused turnovers, 24 ground balls). Junior Meghan Miller has been a vital part of both groups with four goals, five assists and team-highs with 21 caused turnovers and 25 ground balls.
In its last outing, Duke topped #6 Princeton, 8-4, behind a three-goal effort from Chrest. The Blue Devils road trip continues with a Saturday, March 29 match-up with Stanford at 12:00 p.m.
