Duke University women's lacrosse players, Kelly Dirks (Annapolis, Md.) and Claire Sullivan (Washington, D.C.) were named IWLCA Division I Academic All-Americas on Thursday, June 13. The senior duo helped the Blue Devils to a 10-8 record in 2002 and an Elite Eight appearance.
Dirks, an Economics major, registered 36 goals, 11 assists and 47 points for the Blue Devils. She closed her career ranked second in goals (125) and points (157) and fourth in assists with 32. Dirks was a 2002 All-ACC Tournament selection after collecting three goals in a 12-8 loss to North Carolina and a 2001 All-ACC pick.
Sullivan, a Public Policy major, tallied 11 goals and two assists this past season. The senior midfielder also paced the team with 60 ground balls and was among the team leaders in caused turnovers (24) and draw controls (23). For her career, Sullivan accumulated 45 goals, 19 assists and 64 points, while making the ACC All-Tournament team as a sophomore and junior.
The Duke pair of Dirks and Sullivan comprised two of the four IWLCA Division I Academic All-Americas from the Atlantic Coast Conference. They were joined by Lauren Aumiller and Lindsay Buchanan of Virginia.
