Browns Summit, NC - Second-ranked Duke placed four players in the top 10 to increase its lead to 10 strokes after two rounds this afternoon at the fifth annual Bryan National Collegiate women's golf tournament.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament, which features 13 teams ranked in the top 50, is being held at the Bryan Park Champions Course in Browns Summit, NC, and concludes with the third and final round with a new time in a shotgun start on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.
Duke leads the pack, shooting a low round of 293 in the second round for a 580 team score. In second place is fifth-ranked Ohio State at 590, while 13th-ranked Georgia is a stroke back in third at 591. Close behind in fourth is seventh-ranked Oklahoma State at 592, while tournament co-host 17th-ranked Wake Forest fell into a tie for fifth place with Memphis at 596. The tournament's other co-host, UNC Greensboro, is in 15th place with a 624 two-round score. ACC members NC State is seventh at 602, while North Carolina moved up to ninth place shooting a two-day score of 610.
Angela Jerman of Georgia carded her second straight round under par with a two-under 70 for a 137 two-round score and a three-stroke lead over yesterday's leader, Viranda Nirapathpongporn of Duke. Her 137 score is the lowest in tournament history after two rounds, breaking the previous record of 141 held by two players. Nirapathpongporn shot a 75 and is four under for the tournament with a 140.
Senior Candy Hannemann fired a team-best 71 on Saturday and is tied for fifth individually at 145. The three other Blue Devils all posted rounds of 74 in the second round. Kristina Engstrom and Leigh Anne Hardin are tied for 10th (148) and Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh is tied for 52nd as she rebounded from an 81 on Friday.
