CHARLOTTE, NC - Sophomore midfielder Casey McCluskey scored her fourth goal in three games, but it wasn't enough as Duke fell to #12 Charlotte, 2-1 at Transamerica Field. It was the Blue Devils' first defeat versus the 49ers.
Charlotte's Megan Terlip assisted a Jennie Leeder goal at the 7:18 mark to give the 49ers an early lead they wouldn't relenquish. Neither team would score again until there was less than 20 minutes left in the game. Charlotte's Courtney Crandell scored off an assist by Shannon Roberto at the 72:16 mark.
Duke rallied when McCluskey scored off an assist from Brigid Bowdell at the 81:53 mark, but time ran out as the Blue Devils fell to 6-7-1 on the season.
Duke outshot Charlotte on the afternoon, 15-6. The Blue Devils have outshot their opponents 232-115 and have outshot the competition in 12 of 14 matches.
The Blue Devils have four regular season matches remaining including three ACC road games and one non-conference matchup against High Point at home. Duke travels to meet Virginia on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7:00 p.m. for an ACC matchup and then to Chapel Hill on Sunday, Oct. 27 to face the Tar Heels at 1:00 p.m.
They return home on Wednesday, Oct. 30 to face High Point on Senior Night and then travel to Wake Forest on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m.
