Four Blue Devils Selected to U.S. Women's Lacrosse Developmental Team
DURHAM, N.C. - Four members of the Duke women's lacrosse team have been selected to the United States Women's Lacrosse Developmental Team by US Lacrosse. Rising senior Kristen Foster (Ellicott City, Md.), junior Lauren Gallagher (West Chester, Pa.), sophomore Meghan Miller (Severna Park, Md.), and junior Meghan Walters (Wyndmoor, Pa.) all will compete in the Developmental Team's annual camp from July 31 to August 4 and will have two competitions this fall.
Foster came on strong in 2001 as she earned All-ACC honors and was a nominee for the Tewaaraton Trophy as the National Player of the Year, after leading the ACC in goals against average (6.63) and save percentage (.559).
Gallagher was an All-ACC selection as sophomore, while recording 43 goals, 15 assists, and 58 points for the Blue Devils. Walters was once again a cornerstone of the Duke defense in 2001 as she started 15 of the 17 games played after suffering an injury in preseason practice. She notched 34 ground balls and 20 draw controls as a sophomore. Miller came in as a freshman last season and started 15 of her 17 games played on defense. She scored six goals and added an assist along with 23 ground balls and 12 draw controls.
It marks the second year in a row Gallagher and Walters will play on the Developmental Team and the first for Foster and Miller. The Developmental Team consists of players who show the potential to compete at the international level in women's lacrosse and serves as a feeder program for the U.S. Elite and World Cup teams. Duke rising senior Kate Kaiser (Cockeysville, Md.) is a member of the U.S. Elite team.
