DURHAM, N.C. -- As the women's lacrosse season has concluded, the Duke Blue Devils have been consistent on the All-America squads which have been released recently. Kate Kaiser, Lauren Gallagher, and Kristen Foster each have been selected first team All-America.
The IWLCA released its All-America teams earlier this week with Kaiser selected first team midfield and Foster named first team goalkeeper. Sophomore's Megan Walters and Lauren Gallagher each were selected second-team defense and midfield, respectively.
On Wednesday, US Lacrosse announced its All-America squads with Kaiser and Gallagher selected first team midfielder and Foster first team goalkeeper.
Kaiser and Foster were both selected a nominee for the Tewaaraton Trophy earlier this season as the National Player of the Year. Kaiser tallied 50 goals and eight assists for 58 points in her junior campaign. It marks the third consecutive year Kaiser has been selected All-America.
Foster stepped in the starting role as goalkeeper for the Blue Devils in 2001 and had an excellent season. The junior started all 19 matches, while posting a 6.63 goals against average and a .559 save percentage.
Gallagher started all 19 games and tied with Kaiser for the team lead with 58 points. She tallied 43 goals and 15 assists in just her second year at Duke. Walters once again was the key to Duke's defense in 2001. Game in and game out she marked the opponent's top player, while finishing with 24 caused turnovers and 34 ground balls on the season.
Duke finished the season with its best record in the history of the program at 15-4 and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. All players selected All-America this season return to Duke next season.
