DURHAM, N.C. - Four Duke women's lacrosse players earned regional All-America honors, announced Thursday by the South Region All-America Committee. Kate Kaiser (Cockeysville, Md.), Kristen Foster (Ellicott City, Md.), and Lauren Gallagher (West Chester, Pa.) were all named to the IWLCA South Region All-America First Team, while Meghan Walters (Wyndmoor, Pa.) earned a position on the second team. In all, 11 of the 16 first-team selections were from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Kaiser joined the team for the third consecutive year, as she leads the Blue Devils with 48 goals through 18 games. Earlier today, she notched five goals to help the Blue Devils to a 17-3 victory over Temple in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Gallagher also notched five goals in today's victory to give her a team-leading 57 points. It is the first time the sophomore attacker has been named to the team.
Foster has been superb for the Blue Devils in between the pipes, pushing the Blue Devils' scoring margin to +5.45 on the season. Duke has outscored its opponents 219-121, and Foster's 6.61 goals-against-average ranks within the top five in the nation. Foster made nine saves while yielding only three goals in the Blue Devils' first round victory.
Walters was named to the second team for the second time in her two years, as she has anchored the Blue Devils from defense. Despite fracturing her wrist in the pre-season, Walters has returned to play in 16 of Duke's 18 contests.
The Duke women's lacrosse team, seeded second in the NCAA field, hosts seventh-seeded Loyola on Sunday, May 13, at 3:00 PM in Koskinen Stadium. The winner of the contest will advance to next week's NCAA Final Four at Johns Hopkins University.
