Three juniors and two sophomores from Duke were named to the All-ACC team, including Kate Kaiser (Cockeysville, Md.), Kelly Dirks (Annapolis, Md.), Lauren Gallagher (West Chester, Pa.), Meghan Walters (Wyndmoor, Pa.), and Kristen Foster (Ellicott City, Md.).
Kaiser scored five goals against sixth-ranked North Carolina this afternoon to lead the Blue Devils to their first-ever ACC Tournament victory. She has scored a team-leading 36 goals for the Blue Devils, also adding eight assists for 44 points.
Gallagher has provided the Blue Devils with consistent offense, having the honor as the only Duke player to score in every contest. She has four game-winning goals this season, tallying 30 goals in 14 contests.
Dirks has been an Iron Duke for the team, starting every contest and ranking third on the team in scoring with 19 goals and four assists. She provided one of the highlights of the season with her game-winning goal against second-ranked Georgetown on March 24.
The Duke defense has been anchored by preseason IWLCA All-America Walters, who has often stifled the opponent's best offensive player. She has accumulated 24 ground balls and 14 draw controls, coming on strong for the Blue Devils after missing the first two games with a broken wrist.
Duke goalie Kristen Foster has held down the fort for the Blue Devils, making 126 saves and allowing just 87 goals for a goals-against average of 6.21. Foster came up big this afternoon with eight saves against North Carolina to preserve the 10-5 victory.
Miller becomes the second Blue Devil to earn the Rookie of the Year honors, as Kaiser did so in 1999. In addition to playing the defensive midfielder position, Miller has tallied five goals and an assist in 12 matches.
The fourth-ranked Blue Devils play top-ranked Maryland on Sunday at 12:00 PM in the ACC Championship game in Orlando, Florida. The match will be televised by FOX Sports South, Comcast Sports Net, and the Sunshine Network.
