Duke opened up the scoring just 37 seconds in when senior attacker Claire Finn (Newton, Ma.) fired a bouncing shot past Notre Dame goalie Jen White. Kate Kaiser (Cockeysville, Md.) doubled the Blue Devil lead at the 23:28 mark with her first of a game-high four goals on the day. Kaiser has scored 17 goals in her last four games. She also added two assists on the day to give her six points.
Notre Dame midfielder Danielle Shearer scored two of the next four goals to keep the Blue Devil lead at 4-2, before Lauren Gallagher (West Chester, Pa.) tallied her first of three goals to push the Duke lead back to three goals. Notre Dame then scored twice in the last minute of the half to bring the score to 5-4.
That was the last time a Notre Dame shot would get past Duke goalie Kristen Foster (Ellicott City, Md.). Foster made nine saves on the day, four of which came in the second half, sparking an 11 goal barrage in the second half. A plethora of Blue Devils contributed in the scoring column, including freshmen Meghan Miller (Severna Park, Md.) with one goal, Lauren Kickham (Ellicott City, Md.) with one goal and one assist, and Cheryl Lynn Horton (Walnut Creek, Ca.) with two goals. Duke returns to action on Saturday when it faces Yale at Johnson Field at 1:00 PM.
