The Duke women's soccer team capped off its regular season with a 2-0 victory over Vanderbilt Saturday night. The Blue Devils improved to 8-8 overall (2-5 Atlantic Coast Conference), while the Commodores fell to 7-9 on the season (4-5 Southeastern Conference).
The match was scoreless until the 83:05 mark when Duke junior midfielder Carly Fuller scored on a direct kick from 20 yards out. The goal, which was her fourth of the season, would turn out to be the game-winner.
Senior forward Alison Sanders, who was playing in the final regular season game of her career, added an insurance goal just over three minutes later to secure the win for the Blue Devils.
Sophomore goalkeeper Thora Helgadottir continued her tremendous play of late, making three saves on her way to recording her third consecutive shutout.
It was the third straight victory for the Blue Devils and fourth in their last five games as they enter the ACC Women's Soccer Tournament at Dennie Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C., on November 8, 9 and 11.
